So Long Pacifier

Julia has said good bye to her pacifier, unwillingly of course. We really wanted to get rid of it before 18 months (time recommended by our ped.) and both realize the longer you wait the worse it is. The first night was super sad cause she saw one on the floor but she has actually slept really well and we haven't heard from her much at all. It's just initially falling asleep that has been a challenge.
She's a trooper though and to make things slightly more complicated, Lizzie was up with a fever every 2 hours the first night so Julia had to put herself back to sleep alot. I don't know why I thought it would be easy, nothing is ever as simple as you think it will be.
Last week was such a fun week for me, I saw 3 of my best high school friends. I went to a baby shower for my friend Laura who lives in TX now. She looks so great and it was a lovely luncheon.

On Tues the girls and I travelled to OR (Oak Ridge, LOL not Oregon JLG) for my cousin's high school graduation. My mom just moved in with my grandparents who moved from Maryville to Oak Ridge. Sharon also came into town to see one of her nephews graduate and we got our kids together on Thurs morning. Her boys are so adorable and it was a great visit. I wish we had a chance to go out just the two of us for coffee cause it seemed like every good conversation was interrupted with the needs of a child but that is just the nature of things right now. Next time!

And finally after 3 days with the kids out of town I needed a day away once we got back home so I drove up to the Dickson lake house and met up with my friend Cindy from Louisville. I got to grill her new man on his intentions and had such a great day with adults. LOL
We took a boat ride right before sunset and watched the sun go down, it was very relaxing.

I am so lucky to have such great friends and its so fun to talk to the same friends about parenting and marriage when 15 years ago we were giggling about boys and just trying to make high school the most fun we possibly could.

Todays big event is grocery shopping, with both girls- bleck! But it needs to be done. My good friend Liz just moved back to town from California but with Lizzie just breaking her fever last night I don't want to chance exposing their 4 month old Isaac. (I'm not worried about exposing walmart though, lol) So we'll wait another day to see them. I can never remember if kids are still contageous after the fever or just during. Oh well.

I hate Dr McDreamy

MAJOR GREYS ANATOMY SPOILER:
If you haven't yet watched the season finale of Greys Anatomy then do not read.
I just watched it this afternoon and I am so annoyed with the Derek Meredith thing. BE A MAN! If he chose Addison then that should be the end of it. I think having he and Meredith hook up just shows weakness. I hope Addison leaves him and Meredith is over the whole drama by next season and he pines for her and never gets her back. Bleck, how aggravating. And would they seriously punish the interns by making them throw a prom? Come on writers. Someone should get the boot. Or all of them. I guess they won't have to do that though if Izzie really quits. I wonder if she'll be back? I'm in a sour mood over it and almost indifferent to the show now. I probably shouldn't let a show get me so worked up, how sad. I can't wait till these season finales are over, I'm getting tired! Lost is up next, hope its not a let down!

Little Mommy

Lizzie has definitely taken on the role of mother with Elmo Elizabeth (a name we think is influenced by Emily Elizabeth, Clifford's owner). She pushes him around in a stroller, changes his diaper, puts him to bed and feeds him. Lately she's been carrying him around in a backpack carrier that we have borrowed from some friends and the bottom strap goes down to her calves and Julia has been hit in the head a number of times with the bars that hang off the back. So I offered to make her a baby sling and that seems to be working.
It is super cute to watch her carry it around the house.

Here's Julia with one of their "princess crowns" with one flower missing, but she didn't seem to mind.

Izzie went crazy

Grey's Anatomy was crazy last night. What is up with Izzie, she went too far. It'll be interesting to see how they get her out of this one cause I don't see any other option besides her getting kicked out of the program for stopping Denny's heart so he can be bumped to the top of the donor list. (LOL- sounds funny and ridiculous typed out like that) The goal of last night's show was to make the viewer so incredibly anxious we can hardly stand it and will without a doubt be watching tonight. Thank goodness we don't have to wait till next Sunday to see the conclusion, that would be annoying. Dr. Shephard (McDreamy) is getting on my last nerves. What a BABY! Can we please just end the Meredith/Derek thing.
Speaking of crazies, Lost has had some wacky twists lately. I'll be looking forward to that show this week and season finale. I heard the final two hour show was going to be a doozy. I think its safe to say that M is insane and will do anything to get W back. (initials used to protect you bums who think its fair to wait till it comes out on dvd so you can watch the entire season at once- cheaters!)
Speaking of, the Goseys were in town this weekend which was so fun! They came on Saturday for a cookout at Timmy and Bethany's to help celebrate Timmy's graduation from law school. I'll try to get some pictures posted today. We stayed up so late and got about 5 hours of sleep on Saturday night and this after a week of not much sleep and now I think I might have a cold. But it was worth it, I love having friends over!

Nothing to Do

That's actually a fabrication, I have tons to do and yet I find myself sitting on the couch and watching an E special on Tom Cruise and switching to the food network which is doing an infomercial for the Magic Bullet. That thing rocks. I have found myself nearly dialing the phone to order it several times now, just kidding.
I could be picking up the living room, sewing one of my many projects, reading a book (I just finished the third in the Narnia series) but no I would rather read celebrity gossip on the net and channel surf.
Is it just me or are they cramming Mission Impossible 3 down our throats. Man that movie better pay off. I don't think I'll make it out to the theater, however I would rent it.
I went to pilates class for the first time yesterday and I am paying for it today. Man, it really kicked my tail. I can't wait to go back. I was able to do pretty much everything the class did (mostly out of stubbornness and pride) except the shoulder workout. The exercises we were doing reminded me of the flexed arm hang in school and I hated that one. My arms were shaking and it was pretty pitiful. In the first five minutes when we were balancing on one foot and drawing small circles in the air with our other leg, I knew I was in trouble. It was a great workout though and I wish I could go every other day. I'm going to try to go one evening and one morning a week. I don't really want to miss dinner with the family two nights a week inorder to work out. I want to try to be aware of the message that I send the girls about working out and why we do it. It's to stay healthy and to enjoy ourselves. I really don't want them to get messages about exercising and dieting inorder to lose weight. I'm not a big fan of dieting, it seems to me that it usually just ends up being a cycle of depriving yourself of something and then giving in and having too much. I am no expert though. My point being, I think I would rather have the girls hear about moderation than dieting. We'll see how it goes, it makes me kind of nervous to raise girls in today's society. So much body image stuff out there.
Well that's enough blabbing. I better check and see if the Magic Bullet people have made their alfredo sauce in 6 seconds yet. In just 6 seconds!

Odds and Ends

I recently inherited a bunch of material from a friend and I am super excited about the possibilities! I will probably use some for Julia's bed spread and I'm hoping to make some summer dresses out of the rest. Of course I'm not starting on anything till I finish their curtains. I've done one window and am successfully procrastinating on the double window.

I love these floral prints.

She was also going to give away the beginning of a smocked dress and I am totally going to finish piecing it together and then I'll take the credit. LOL

I also figured out how to make my hooded towels appropriate for boys. I was inspired by one of the girls' carter's pajamas which has felt shapes on it. The stitching isn't perfect but it holds the star on there and it works.
I have 2 more to make, everyone I know seems to be having boys.

In other news, Lizzie and my Mom planted some sunflowers in a pot this past weekend for Lizzie to water and to watch grow. And I had them out on the front porch and last night during the storm they got soaked. I think its possible the seeds got drowned. I do not have a green thumb and I'm hoping something sprouts or I am going to be pulling up a weed from our yard putting it in the dirt just so my daughter can see something "grow". In another week I'm going to be buying a sunflower from somewhere. She is going to think that flowers just appear over night!

Julia has been pushing this toy around lately, its becoming the way she gets around the house and avoids walking on her own. It is super cute though, she steers it around corners, its almost like someone using a walker.
