Reminder from 1 Timothy
I read this in a devotion this morning and thought it was so simple and yet something that can get so lost in our everyday busyness. It's something I am more aware of for my children than myself and I need to "feed my soul on the Word of God" as well. I wish I knew how to make this font italics, but the following is from the book:
"But you, man of God, flee from all of this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
1 Timothy 6:11
I've come to realize how important it is to monitor what we take in during our daily routines. What kind of books do we read? What are we listening to on the radio? Who are our friends?
In this verse, Paul commanded Timothy to 'pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.' We must surround ourselves with these things to be able to actually live them.
In a sense, we are like sponges, because what we 'soak up' each day is exactly what will come out when the pressure is on. Sure, it's easy to put on godliness when life is going our way. But when we get a little stressed or pushed about, how do we react? If we've truly pursued the traits listed in 1 Timothy, godliness and love will naturally pour out during life's ups and downs.
Remember: Positive In = Positive Out. Fill yourself to overflowing with the Lord, and others will see the light of Jesus all around you."
This is going to be what I'll be thinking on today, and hopefully each day after for that matter. One of those simple reminders, a way to pull back and take notice of my day and my influences.
