cover girl
Julia pretended that side walk chalk was lip stick today and I caught it on film.

Someone let this little girl know that she was a month shy of turning two because she is all about acting like a two year old lately. It's not so much that she is into more or disobeying more, its these tantrums. They are unreal, I am actually concerned sometimes that she might hurt herself. I usually walk away but sometimes I get really concerned, its those panicky mothering moments where you wonder how much of it you are responsible for. I don't want to cater to her to avoid a fit but I also don't like to set her off, its a delicate balancing act.
An exhausting balancing act.
Andy and I survived the death stomach flu last week. I like to call it that because both of us asked the other to put us out of our misery in the midst of it. Luckily our sicknesses were 2 days apart because I don't know how we would have survived getting it at the same time. The stomach flu is so horrid, I'm convinced its one of the things that people are tormented with in hell. That and mastitis.

What will they call the show?
Greys Anatomy Spoiler!!! Don't read if you didn't see it last night.
There are only a hand full of shows that I absolutely won't miss- Lost (but they are hanging on by a thread), CSI Vegas and Greys Anatomy and I'm trying desperately to avoid American Idol this year.
But this post is about Greys Anatomy, what in the world is going on with that show? I honestly don't know which way things are going to fall. Will they really kill off Meredith? The show IS named after her. Is she going to be in a coma hanging out with Denny and the bomb squad guy for a few episodes while we sit on pins and needles wondering if she'll pull through? I am thoroughly annoyed, mostly because I am really impatient and can't stand suspense. And Izzie's speach at the end was sooooo lame. Her "I believe in..." crap. She should have never said what she said to George. Who is she to accuse someone of making mistakes when she just got off probation for trying to kill Denny to get him a new heart. I think Dr. Stevens needs a little piece of humble pie!
And its quite possible that I need a real life since I just blogged about a fictional television show. LOL!

Thrift store fabric
I love finding a great deal! I found this little treasure when I swung by a thrift store before getting the girls from mothers day out.

Pictured is only a fourth of the material, I believe there is 2 yards, the pattern is repeated along the bottom.

I'm thinking a great bag like this or a cool kitchen apron. Any suggestions? I really love it. Its heavy duty material too.
I also got Lizzie a lavendar leotard with little skirt for $2. I love thrift store dress up clothes!
Did I mention the bundle of fabric was $1.50??

Baking
Its been 5 days since I got my kitchenaid and I think I've baked more in that short amount of time than I have in the entire year! I've made bread, cookies, garlic rolls, sausage cheese bread and sugar cookies, all with milled wheat. A good friend of mine got a free standing mill for her birthday so I inherited her attachment mill. I've enjoyed it so much, which has really surprised me cause I am intimidated by bread and the whole yeast and kneading thing. LOL.
More than loving the taste I really enjoy providing my family with something that is so good for them. The chocolate chip cookies are made with milled soft white wheat and they have flax seed and millet so really you could eat as many as you want! LOL, if you see me the next time and I've gained 10 pounds then you'll know why.
Last night I made roll out sugar cookies with Lizzie for her pre school valentine party. We had fun together but later on in the evening I began to feel guilty about not letting her do more. She rolled the dough, but then I would roll it just to make sure it was the appropriate 1/8 inch width. And she would place the cookie cutters (wherever she wanted) but I would scoop them up with the spatula to make sure they retained their shape. Ugh, so uptight. With the last little bit of dough I let her do the whole process and I cleaned up. When they came out of the oven they were so cute, hearts that were 1/2 inch on one side sloping down to the other side and some unrecognizable shapes. I was really proud of her and couldn't help but being a bit disappointed in myself. I hope to cook with her a lot more, I think the more we work together the better it will get and I'll continue to challenge myself to let her do more.

Aunt JoyLynne she loves her rolling pin.

She didn't understand why I deliberately put flour on her nose!

Yummy cookies we are still working on finishing. I'm not sure that Andy likes the whole wheat thing, but if thats what it takes for him to get some cookies then he's happy!

Bread with turkey sausage and monterrey jack cheese rolled up inside. It was so great and far exceded my expectations. We're eating the second half of the loaf tonight with pizza sauce on the slices. Yum!

Isn't she lovely!
My new kitchenaid arrived today and I am so excited!!! I was actually laying down trying to nap when the UPS man came and once I got the box I was too excited to sleep.

I almost expected rays of sunlight to burst out as I opened the box!!
She's so beautiful!!!

I'm so glad I got the pistachio colored one, its way more fun! I was supposed to be clearing off my counter tops and kitchen table in anticipation of her arrival but that hasn't happened yet, oh well.
Let the milling and bread making begin! I sure have come a long way from chicken helpers. LOL!!

busy little bees
I love having Chris here, the girls are having so much fun playing and no one has followed me around or whined at me- its been great! I've gotten a lot done and even started the prep for dinner.
Of course the mess is exponentially more but nothing that can't be fixed in 10 minutes.

I made a path of chairs from the couch to the hall for them to walk on while I mopped the living room. They thought this was a great idea and did a great job of staying off the wet floor.

Chris under a pile of blankets, sleeping bags and pillows on the couch.

They decided to move all the blankets and pillows and empty the stuffed animals onto Lizzie's day bed. They are cracking me up today.
Lizzie (the general) is currently singing the clean up song at the top of her lungs trying to get Chris and Julia to join in. Her voices raises a bit with each verse, I think she's trying to inspire them to help!

Recycle your man's work shirts
While I haven't tried this yet I think it is sooooo cute and once my schedule clears up a bit I will be chopping up some of Andy's button downs (I've already looked through his side of the closet!).
It's worth clicking on this link to cap sleeve shirt, such a great idea.
Thanks for the link Amy, when are we doing this together. . .

Hot chocolate fixes everything
Lizzie ventured out in the the snow/slush for about 5 minutes this afternoon. She didn't last very long, might have had something to do with stripping off her gloves and bare handing the slush.
Thank goodness we have hot chocolate, it made a cold girl very happy.
