Martha Stewart, you kill me!
If you know me well, you know that I can have a one track mind about things and lately my obsession has been the organization of my craft supplies and my office in general. I have several spools of ribbons that were spilling out into a drawer and several loose pieces as well. So I started looking online to check out my options of how to store ribbon- nerdy I know. So after a bit of googling and finding the old dowel rod hook method I decided to check with the craft queen herself and search at marthastewart.com. I actually found something very cool and have been trying since to figure out how to do it.
This ribbon organizer is made with a half round copper gutter. I went to home depot to look at gutters on Sat just to see if there was a scrap pile or if they would cut some and they didn't have half round and certainly no copper. Which is fine, since according to my online research it costs $70-$90 for a 10 ft length of copper gutter. This is what cracks me up about Martha's good things and various other crafts, she spends soooo much money. You either have to have some special spice that she flies in from India or a special rice paper only sold in Soho. But I guess in her defense great looking things are more expensive.
So I have not given up my quest, I will settle for aluminum but I definitely want the half round and not the other kind which is sold at home depot. I wonder how crazy it would sound to call a gutter company and ask if they have a scrap pile, "um, I only need about a yard of half round gutter for some ribbon storage, do you have a scrap pile?".
Maybe if I get a length of half round aluminum from home depot for under $15 and have it cut up I can sell parts of it to other obsessive crafters. :) I only want a yard or so.
So on with the searching, I will spend less than $10 total if it kills me and even that seems like a stretch. If I get the courage up to call a gutter company and not feel like a heel I'll post what the results are. lol Maybe I'll get my ribbon organizer yet!

Man, I wish I had known that you were doing this cuz we just got rid of our extra gutters on Friday, after we had finished reguttering our house. Bummer. Of course, it wasn't copper, so it may have not been good enough for you anyways!

Have you tried any salvage yards? Not that they would have copper, but they might have the half round. Our favorite salvage place is on Dodds.
