first pumpkin
I can't remember the last time I carved a pumpkin and Andy says he never has so it was a bit of guess work (and let's be honest, internet research) but I think we made a good one!
Since this is Lizzie's first year of school we really haven't celebrated halloween in previous years. Not for any really good reason, just avoiding the hassle I guess. I didn't want to carve pumpkins but once we did I wish I had gotten each girl a pumpkin. I bought them one and Julia drew the mouth and Lizzie drew the eyes and nose and I carved it, exactly on their lines. They were so excited and SO proud and I even had to face the pumpkin towards the window so they could look out and see the face all the time.
Julia has been asking all day to "light it up" but I told her after dinner.
It didn't take as much effort as I thought and made them so happy, it was fun. Maybe next year we'll venture out to a pumpkin patch and do the whole hay ride thing, I think they would love that.
But for this year they were amazingly excited about their walmart pumpkin. :)

Josiah came home today saying the mouth of our jack-o-lantern (which we haven't carved yet) has to be zig-zaggy, like a scary face. Don't know if Eden will agree, we'll hafta meet half-way.

Thats funny, the exact same conversation was had in our house. In fact Lizzie doodled her idea for a face and made sure it had a zig zag scary face and then they would both giggle. :) We decided on a happy pumpkin, but if I had let them do it I think it would have been scary. All I can think is that Super Why has been doing an episode lately about not being afraid of halloween, maybe they saw the image there. Who ever knows!
