travels

Caroline and I just returned this weekend from our thanksgiving trip to OR & WA and boy am I tuckered out. I must say that my little people hater did great though! During the first flight to OR she played peak a boo with the passengers behind us, I was shocked. In 6 days we flew back and forth across the country and did two 6 hr road trips and she never fussed for longer than a couple minutes at a time. Two ladies on our first flight commented on how quiet she was and then they followed up with, "and we know she was quiet because YOU did a good job." Darn right and thank you!!! :)

I think the key to the successful trip was certainly lots of prayer and low expectations. I knew I would be holding her most the time since socializing is not high on her priority list and knowing that going in helped immensely. No one held her the entire time until the last day when I needed a shower (no, that wasn't the only one I took) and I was frankly so over her. So my brother in law entertained her and I was able to shower, pack and have a bit of breathing room.
We travelled to Eugene to my sister's and then drove up to the yearly Strasser family reunion in Richland, WA (where I was born and raised). There were 52 for dinner, so it was no wonder she never left my arms. In fact during our 2 days in Richland I don't think she walked around once unless we were alone in our room where we slept and escaped to get away and recharge.
I really can't complain, she slept well and was a great sport about all the driving and flying. I on the other hand was having way too much fun at night and averaged between 3-5 hrs of sleep a night. :) I really wanted to focus on relationships and enjoy being with family and it was a great time!
She took a morning nap thanksgiving morning and I was even able to play the entire football game, although not very well. :) Hope to have more pictures of that soon.
Thanks to all those who prayed for our travels, I could really feel it. During the last flight I didn't think I had much left in me to entertain her and we were taking off and she started to cry so I sang in her ear and she got completely quiet and made it though the take off. I teared up over the faithfulness of God to always be with us.

Putting baby einstein on my ipod worked like a charm! She watched World Animals numerous times and didn't care if she could hear it or not. Thank goodness for technology. ;)
