Theatrical Julia
(I'm not sure if this story will read well or that I will tell it well but I mostly want to get it down to have for my own record, so enjoy!)
Julia has a remarkable memory, like most 3- almost 4 yr olds. She memorizes books but can recite them with such personality and using voice infliction it is very entertaining.
So today at preschool I was the helper mom which means Julia got to bring her show and tell. She brought her sleeping beauty doll and as the kids passed it around discussing princesses and movies, she sat perched in her little chair (the teacher's chair, very special) answering questions and sharing random facts. (not always pertaining to the subject) :)
One friend mentioned music from sleeping beauty and Julia excitedly spoke up and declared- "we have the music from The Sound of Music"! So excited.
side note: my kids are totally into The Sound of Music right now and LOVE the singing and dancing and act out every scene. Granted, we don't usually watch it past the wedding so I don't have to explain who the Nazis are, but I highly recommend it as a great kids movie. It's so long, we usually view it in 2 parts, beginning to the puppet show (a favorite) and then puppet show to wedding. Just so you can know.
Anyhoo- After that she jumped out of her chair and said, "and there is even a song about a girl with a pale pink coat". As she speaks these words she is leaning to one side with her hands at her sides flexed as if to do a little dainty curtsy. Then she said, "it goes a little something like this...
high on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo"
And she just broke out in song, it was priceless. She was bouncy at the knees and totally singing out. I was crying from laughing so hard. It was a random little performance and so funny.
She proceeded to sing like 3 verses, although the lyrics are hard and she would make up words or mumble sounds and then pick it up again with "Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo".
I was wishing so much that everyone who knows my Julia and loves her could have been there to witness it because it was hysterical. To break out in song, totally unrelated to the show and tell, and continue to sing regardless of who was watching was priceless.
I was really proud even in the laughter and will cherish that moment forever. I am totally going to tell her about it when she's older. So awesome.
O ho lay dee odl lee o, o ho lay dee odl ay
O ho lay dee odl lee o, lay dee odl lee o lay

So sweet! Way to go, Julia! I am only that uninhibited in front of M and C - they get to hear all my crazy made-up songs :)

Children are the most precious!! I love the way she was so fearless and brave in front of her class. I can only imagine how fun that was to watch.
What a cutie!

Good call on the Mary Poppins. No way to explain the "badness" of the Nazis in that film without talking about atrocities like the holocaust.
